Convention stuff
Generally, I haven't been watching this stuff, but I caught speeches from Barack Obama, Theresa Heinz Kerry, and John Edwards. Obama was the best, by far, with Edwards a close second and Heinz Kerry third.
Obama is an energetic, charismatic figure who, I think, is going to go a long way. But he needs to be wary of history. Such people on the left usually end up dead (see JFK, RFK, MLK, and Paul Wellstone). Then, the rest of us sit around and come up with plausible yet unprovable conspiracy theories about how and why the right killed our heroes while the right is continuing their steady march toward completely screwing us over.
Obama looks like he would be President. He acts and talks like it. He's an impressive figure. Sadly, this country is not and may never be ready for an African-American President. We don't talk about it much, but there are still many, many racists in this country, and Bush and his fellow GOP-ers take every opportunity they can to wink in their direction and let them know, in code, that they are still a valued voting block in the Republican party.
