ABC and the other crappy networks and the conservative/corporate media in general
Let's think about this. In a previous post, I mentioned that ABC (Disney) was chastised by Michael Powell for its airing of that Desperates Housewives / Monday Night Football spot the other night. Also, let's remember that Disney, earlier this year, backed out of distributing Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11 because it was a political hot potato.
What the fuck is the matter with these networks? I mean, you have CBS falling over backwards to cancel The Reagans miniseries last year because conservatives got their panties in a bunch about it, and you have the flap recently with the 60 Minutes-Dan Rather-Bush National Guard memo where, again, CBS falls all over backwards to apologize for it.
Then, you have NBC, who, in 2000, had Jack Welch, General Electric's CEO, trying to get his crew to call it for Bush on Election Night, and this year, I think Ohio was red the first time they even mentioned the damn state.
And then consider all of these networks, and the cable outfits, and the big newspapers, and everything else but a few lone voices of dissent on the internet cheering us on to war back in late 2002/early 2003 and not even questioning any of the intelligence or anything at all really except maybe just what color roses Iraqis will throw at our feet when we march triumphantly into Baghdad.
What the fuck is the matter with these networks? They're corporations, that's what. They've abandoned any sense of duty to the public for the sake of huge tax breaks which is just free money since who the hell is hiring anyone anyway and cowtowing to the big whore dollar of conservatism.
And, of course, no one ever, ever, holds the Bushes accountable for anything. Check out Robert Parry at Consortium News for the skinny on this. He's been aware of this for a long time.
When will the "liberal media" lie ever be put to rest? I mean, the conservatives have the White House, Congress, the courts, most of the state governorships and the legislatures, and have the media that isn't blatantly theirs--along with FoxNews, The Washington Times, 24/7 AM talk radio which are blatantly theirs--in their back pockets and they still bitch and complain about how they're not being treated fairly.
Of course, we all know that, if there is just one voice that dares criticize them by using the (gasp!) truth, then they are being persecuted (handy-dandy fundamentalist Christian terminology) because extremism is no fun if there isn't someone to demonize.
