Change of pace
I've been writing a lot about politics lately so I figured I'd try something different.
I don't watch much television, and, until the last few years, I really wasn't one to criticize others for watching television. But now I am criticizing others for watching television. Stop watching that shit! It's turning your minds into warmed-over mush!
The little bit of television I do watch is usually the news (or Seinfeld reruns--my weakness), and I usually do this in the morning and subject myself to the vapid morning shows like The Today Show, Good Morning America, etc. I can pretty much determine that, if there's something extremely important happening, they'll mention it while I'm eating my generic cereal and drinking my coffee.
But, I can barely stand to do this anymore. It seems that these shows now spend a good deal of their time--more than they used to, in my unofficial, unresearched opinion--talking about other television shows. Yeah, the shows that I, the non-television watcher, haven't watched, and yeah, shows that I just don't give a rat's ass about.
And it's basically about shows that air on the respective morning show's network, which is just the equivalent of jerking yourself off. Sometimes, though, they talk about another network's show, some sort of "event" like Survivor when it first aired, which is sort of like having intercourse with the town whore.
It seemed like, not too long ago, these shows had a bit more substance to them. Perhaps they talked to a director of a new film, or an author of a new book, or some celebrity promoting a good cause. Yeah, I'm sure they still do this. But why am I noticing the other stuff more?
